The Lawn on D Powered by Citizens Bank Overview.Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center The fire was still burning on Saturday morning, and with a nice cuppa, everyone warmed up from their night sleeping out. It was great to see everyone coming together for such a great cause, which was to raise awareness of YMCA Reading and the work we do across the community. The children also enjoyed a game of giant jenga that had been made by staff in our very own workshop at YMCA Reading. Once everyone had arrived and set up camp, we all enjoyed a game of rounders in the field followed by a game of cricket. The group from Marsh fully embraced the event and all of them spent the night under the stars, literally! No tents, no cardboad boxes, just a sleeping bag. There are many homeless charities that organise sleep out events, however, ours was focused as a family friendly sleep out, working in partnership with Marsh Ltd this year to raise funds for YMCA Reading and make all generations, young and old, aware of the work we do across the community, not just the homeless. You can still make a donation to this event by visiting: We still have sponsorship money coming in, but the figure at the moment looks over £1,500 raised. We lit a fire and enjoyed chatting around the camp fire with a few songs, including YMCA! The weather was kind to us and we had a great evening getting to know everyone along with some fun and games in the field. 8 employees from Marsh Ltd (our insurance brokers based in Theale, Reading) and 4 employees of YMCA Reading, along with members of their families spent the night sleeping out to raise funds for the work we do with vulnerable homeless young people in Reading, and all the community work we do alongside this. On Friday 2nd August 2019, 21 people took part in our first ever 'Sleep Easy' event at our centre in Padworth.
